Porcelain veneers can address many cosmetic concerns with a single treatment. Veneers are thin, tooth-colored porcelain shells that fit over the front of your teeth to conceal imperfections. The team at The Miller Center can use veneers to create a smile that compliments your unique features and gives you renewed self-confidence. To learn more about how you can benefit from porcelain veneers, contact our Livingston office and schedule a consultation with Dr. Craig Miller.
Porcelain Veneers Can Give You a Dazzling New Smile
Veneers can provide tremendous benefits for those who wish to address:
- Discoloration or staining, especially if the teeth are affected by intrinsic stains that do not respond to teeth whitening treatment
- Chipped or cracked teeth
- Mild to moderate misalignment
- Uneven, misshapen, or worn teeth
Candidates should also have healthy teeth and gums, since the veneers require a healthy foundation. If you suffer with bruxism (teeth grinding), we must address the condition before moving ahead with veneers or other cosmetic treatments.
Minimal-prep Porcelain Veneers
If you want to correct your cosmetic issues in a relatively short amount of time, we can place minimal prep porcelain veneers. During your first appointment, we will determine the coloration and alignment you wish to achieve. To prepare your teeth for the next step, Dr. Miller will remove less than one-quarter of a millimeter of enamel from the teeth you wish to treat. This process typically requires local anesthesia, but we can provide other sedation treatments if necessary.
After taking an impression of your prepared teeth, we will place temporary veneers, which provide an excellent appearance and fit while you wait for your permanent veneers to be fabricated. Your temporary veneers will act as templates for your permanent veneers that will allow you to preview your results and provide feedback. Based on the fit and feel of your temporaries, we can make adjustments to your permanent veneers.
Our lab uses strong, esthetic e.max® and Empress® lithium disilicate ceramic to craft your veneers. Once your permanent veneers are ready, you will return to our office where we will apply them to your teeth with bonding cement for a secure hold. Finally, you can leave our office with a beautiful new smile.
For patients who want even faster results, we also provide dental bonding. Bonding takes one day and typically costs less than porcelain veneers. However, if you wish to use bonding to create an entirely new facade for your tooth, it can require the removal of two to three millimeters of enamel. It is also important to understand that the composite material is not as durable or stain-resistant as porcelain.
Unlike porcelain veneers, bonding does not require impressions or lab manufacturing. Instead, the dentist will apply a liquid resin to your tooth, molding it for a cosmetic appearance before hardening it with a special light. We will then make any additional refinements and polish the tooth for a natural look.
