Livingston Dentist, Dr. R. Craig Miller has been creating beautiful smiles for 20 years. “Cosmetic Dentistry has developed into such a sophisticated art that we can now use aesthetic techniques to make teeth look like they’ve been moved orthodontically.” Cosmetic Dentistry is an integral part of Dr. Miller’s practice. We continue to provide our patients with healthy beautiful smiles by means of conservative and advanced cosmetic techniques. Porcelain veneers/laminates and bonding are some of the tools we use to create beautiful smiles.

Dental Crowns

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap used to replace damaged or missing teeth to restore the appearance of the smile and help protect against further damage and conditions such as gum disease. They can be made from many different materials, including metal, porcelain-fused-to-metal or all-porcelain. Your dentist will help you decide which type of crown is best for you after a thorough evaluation of your condition.

Dental crowns are placed during a series of two office visits. This first involves preparing the tooth and creating an impression from which the crown is made. The tooth is also thoroughly cleaned and shaped during this appointment, and a temporary crown is placed. The permanent crown is then placed with cement after a few weeks.

For most patients, dental crowns last for at least seven years, but many can last for decades and provide a strong, reliable tooth replacement with no special care needed. However, it is important for patients to clean their crown like their regular teeth, and to see their dentist on a regular basis for professional care.

Dental Inlays & Dental Onlays

Dental inlays and onlays are solid fillings used to restore damaged or decayed teeth. They are often needed when there is not enough healthy tissue left in the tooth to support a regular filling. (If a tooth is severely damaged, a crown may be necessary to cover the entire surface instead of an inlay or onlay.) Unlike regular fillings, they strengthen rather than weaken teeth. Inlays lie within the cusps, or bumps, on the surface of a tooth, while onlays cover one or more cusps. They are often placed over two visits: one in which the tooth is prepared, a temporary filling is placed and an impression is made, and one in which the specially constructed inlay or onlay is cemented onto the tooth. Inlays and onlays made of composite resin or porcelain are tooth-colored, while those made of gold alloy offer increased strength and durability.

Invisalign® is the invisible way to straighten teeth without braces. Using advanced 3-D computer imaging technology to project tooth movement, Invisalign® creates a series of clear, custom-made aligners (repositioners) that gradually move your teeth. You wear each aligner for about 2 weeks, moving to the next set, until the goals you agreed upon with your dentist are reached.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers, also referred to as porcelain laminates are made by a laboratory. After listening to his patient’s desires, Dr. Miller prepares the teeth involved and creates an impression of the “prepped” teeth. The impression along with personal smile design information is provided to the laboratory by Dr. Miller. Before leaving the office, Dr. Miller creates beautiful temporary veneers for the patient to wear during the two week period between visits. The permanent veneers are place at the 2nd visit, just 2 weeks later!

“It is very important for patient’s to receive a smile design that is suitable for their particular features and desires.” Every smile design is a personal signature of each patient’s inner beauty, which Dr. Miller and his team help to reveal.

Teeth Whitening

Dental Crowns | Invisalign ® | Porcelain Veneers | Teeth Whitening | Livingston NJ | New JerseyTooth whitening with professional-strength mouth trays takes place in the office. First, your teeth will be examined and cleaned to make sure there are no cavities, loose fillings, gum problems or other issues that may be exacerbated by the bleaching process. The dentist will then apply the whitening gel, Hydrogen peroxide solution to your teeth.

Advantages of in-office teeth whitening over take-home whitening include:

  • Professional supervision
  • Fast
  • Safe and simple
  • Little sensitivity

Tooth-Colored Fillings

The back teeth are noticeable when we talk and especially when we laugh. Seeing dark, unsightly areas of metal can detract from an otherwise perfect set of teeth. Now there are fillings available that are specially designed to match the natural color of the tooth. These directly placed, bonded resin fillings can make a tooth look like new, whether they are used for small areas of decay or to replace current fillings.
